Letter, 1864 Feb. 15, Folly Island, S.C., to "Brother."

Letter written from Folly Island near Charleston, S.C., reporting recent expedition to divert attention of the Confederates while [commander of the Union Department of the South, Brigadier General Quincy] Gilmore tried to cut the railroad lines between Charleston to Savannah [possibly a reference to Gilmore's deployment of Gen. Truman Seymour to Jacksonville, Florida, on 7 Feb. 1864. Seymour's troops secured the town and sent cavalry raiders to inland towns]. Boroway also reports that his company exchanged their new Springfield muskets for old rusty Enfields; asserting that he would never enlist for another tour of duty, questioning support at home for the war effort, and expressing concern about his father's loyalty, having heard that "he rather takes the souths part."
